CURRENT STATUS
According to regulations, foreigners entering Vietnam and driving vehicles on the roads must possess an international driving license and comply with Vietnamese traffic laws. Violations will be handled the same way as for Vietnamese citizens.
In fact, there are many cases of foreigners coming to Vietnam and driving vehicles without complying with traffic laws, and in quite a few cases, causing accidents. When traffic police officers check, handle, and resolve traffic accidents involving foreigners, they always have officers fluent in English to talk to, explain, remind, and promote traffic safety to ensure they seriously comply with the law.
However, very few traffic police officers know foreign languages, so they face difficulties in dealing with some foreigners who resist arrest and break the law despite knowing it.

STRENGTHEN PUBLIC AWARENESS AND ENFORCEMENT MEASURES
The specialized task force for handling violations by foreigners will include traffic police officers who are proficient in foreign languages, possess good interpersonal and communication skills, and have experience in patrolling, controlling, and handling violations by foreigners.
In addition, the Traffic Police Department also coordinates with relevant agencies to disseminate information to groups of people including foreigners residing in Vietnam or those working, visiting, or traveling in Vietnam. This is to help tourists better understand some of Vietnam's traffic regulations.
It is known that starting from August 1st, the City Police Department will also begin accepting images and videos provided by citizens regarding traffic safety violations. During the trial period, citizens will submit their information at the department's headquarters. After a period of implementation, the department will invest in expanding the model, making it more convenient for citizens to provide images and videos of violating vehicles in many areas of the city.
This can be considered a positive move by authorities in addressing the negative issues that still exist in public transportation. It paves the way for all other provinces and cities to join in strictly enforcing regulations against foreigners, contributing to the collective effort to build a safe, healthy, and law-abiding traffic culture throughout Vietnam.
